No high-resolution files, since the DAC can't deal with them. I play CD -> AIFF or ALAC rips through the digital front end. On the other hand, I don't have ATMP in either CD or the high-resolution version to compare the sound of Apple Scruffs specifically.Īnalog: Systemdek IIX w/Sumiko-modified Profile arm, Dynavector 10x5 cartridge -> Cardas converter box -> Mapleshade Excalibur RCA cables -> Spectral DMC-12 preamp -> PSE Studio IV amp -> Vandersteen 2Ce speakersĭigital: MacBook Pro -> Audioquest Forest USB -> Musical Fidelity V-Link -> Omega Mikro Zephyr S/PDIF cable -> Theta Pro Basic II DAC -> Spectral DMC-12 etc. While vocals, soundstage, instrument location and other aspects of music from my computer-based system are excellent, I don't remember hearing those sorts of sharp initial transients. It was significantly better than all right - the attack on the harmonica and guitar strings was amazing. Did a little maintenance on my old turntable today (Systemdek IIX - replaced ball bearing & oil), and put on Apple Scruffs from the original vinyl issue of ATMP to see if everything was all right.
